The rugged terrain in Kauai makes for excellent activties for the adreneline junkies...oh and a couple for us normal folk too. The Kalalau Trail on the Napali Coast is probably Kauai's most famous attraction, but the 11-mile trail is not for the faint of heart. There are also kayaking trips along the Napali Coast and up the Wailua River. And hiking in Waimea Canyon is superb. Prior to the creation of the Kingdom of Hawaii, Kauai had its own royalty who lived along the banks of the Wailua River. For an interesting history of the area, Smith's Family River Cruise heads up river to fabulous Fern Grotto. The Kauai Children's Discovery Museum has many hands on exhibits about Kauai's natural and cultural history as well. Or attend one of the island's luaus to learn about culture and taste Hawaiian cuisine. Kauai's natural setting is so wonderful. it has been the host to many movie sets through the years. The dramatic cliffs of the Napali Coast can be seen from above at an overlook or below on the Kee Beach, made famous as Bali Hai in the movie South Pacific. Waimea Canyon provides its own share of incredible vistas with its red clay dotted with deep green vegetation and waterfalls.
